Gentle Reflections on Renewal and Fresh Waters

Sometimes I sit quietly and think about the petson I used to be.
Not with judgment.
Not with regret.
Just with compassion.
I think about the things that used to keep me awake at night.
The situations that felt permanent.
The problems that seemed impossible to solve.
The people I thought would always be part of my story.
At the time, I couldn’t imagine life looking any different.
Yet here I am.
Living a life that version of me could only hope for.
Not because everything is perfect.
Not because every dream has come true.
But because I kept going.
Life has a way of carrying us into fresh waters when we least expect it.
Sometimes we’re so focused on surviving the storm that we don’t notice we’re already moving toward calmer shores.
We spend so much time trying to get through difficult seasons that we forget they are exactly that—seasons.
They are not forever.
I think that’s one of the most beautiful lessons life teaches us.
The things that once consumed our thoughts eventually become memories.
The challenges that once felt overwhelming become stories we tell.
The tears we cried become proof that we survived.
The waiting becomes part of the journey.
There was a time when I thought certain chapters of my life would never end.
I thought I would always carry certain burdens.
I thought I would always feel stuck in certain places.
But life kept moving.
And somehow, so did I.
Looking back now, I realize that growth rarely happens in one dramatic moment.
It’s usually a collection of small decisions.
Getting up one more day.
Making one more phone call.
Trying again after disappointment.
Choosing hope when fear feels easier.
Taking one small step forward.
Then another.
And another.
Until one day you look around and realize you’re standing in a completely different place than where you started.
That’s renewal.
Not becoming someone new.
Remembering who you’ve been all along beneath the stress, fear, and uncertainty.
Renewal is realizing that difficult seasons did not destroy you.
They shaped you.
They taught you.
They revealed strengths you didn’t know you had.
And now, standing in fresh waters, you can finally see the shoreline that once felt impossible to reach.
If you’re in a difficult season right now, I want you to remember something.
The life you’re living today was once a future version of yourself’s prayer.
The peace you have today was once something you hoped for.
The wisdom you carry today was earned through experiences you thought would break you.
Give yourself credit for that.
Take a moment to acknowledge how far you’ve come.
Not just the milestones.
Not just the accomplishments.
The healing.
The growth.
The resilience.
The courage it took to keep moving.
Today, I find myself grateful.
Grateful for the lessons.
Grateful for the journey.
Grateful for the storms that taught me how strong I was.
And grateful for the fresh waters that remind me that life is always moving forward.
Wherever you are today, I hope you pause long enough to notice your own growth.
Look back with compassion.
Look ahead with hope.
And trust that renewal is often happening long before we realize it.
The waters ahead may be unfamiliar.
But they may also be exactly where you’re meant to be.
