The Joy of a Change of Scenery

Sometimes we think we need to change our entire lives when what we really need is a change of scenery.

A different view.

A different routine.

A different sky.

I’m reminded of how powerful it can be to step away from the places that hold our stress.

Not forever. Not because we’re running away. Just long enough to remember that the world is bigger than our worries.

When we’re in the same environment every day, our minds can start to feel crowded.

We pass the same streets, sit in the same rooms, and think the same thoughts.

Before we know it, our stress feels bigger than it really is.

Then something simple happens.

We take a trip.

We visit a new coffee shop.

We walk through a different neighborhood.

We sit under a different sky.

And suddenly, we can breathe again.

The problems may still exist, but they don’t feel quite as heavy.

Sometimes a change of scenery doesn’t change our circumstances—it changes our perspective.

We remember that life is still happening outside of our to-do lists.

The sun is still shining somewhere.

People are still laughing.

The world is still beautiful.

There is still joy waiting for us.

I think that’s why travel feels so magical. It reminds us that we are more than our responsibilities. We are more than our worries. We are more than the things we’re trying to fix.

We’re allowed to simply exist.

To look around.

To notice.

To appreciate.

To rest.

Today, wherever you are, I hope you give yourself permission to seek a small change of scenery.

Open a window.

Take a different route home.

Sit outside for a few minutes.

Visit somewhere new.

You may be surprised by how much lighter you feel when your eyes have something new to look at and your heart has something new to experience.

I think the smallest change in scenery creates the biggest shift inside us.

And sometimes that’s exactly what we need.
